He grew up immersed in creativity, becoming the original hook singer for the Through Bred Clic (TBC), a legendary underground group synonymous with Wu-Tang Clan and led by his uncle and now manager DC da Beast. After years of refining his craft and formal vocal training in 2023, he shifted into alternative R&B, merging soul with the raw edge of rock. His influences span Jimi Hendrix, Chris Brown, Bruno Mars, Prince, The Beatles, Michael Jackson, James Brown, and New Edition — artists who shaped his dynamic stage presence and sound. Olskool Ice-Gre and E.P. Da Hellcat  (a.k.a. Ebony Poetress) are the male/female Hip-Hop duo known as Abstract Mindstate, hailing from the Southside and Westside of Chicago respectively. The pair made a name for themselves in the early 2000s with their golden era sensibilities, their brutally honest and introspective lyrics over soulful beats, and their energetic and connected live performances. They proudly label themselves Adult Contemporary Hip Hop or ACH, a term Gre coined and has been using to describe the group’s music for several years.

Their 2001 debut album We Paid, Let Us In! was to be the first of three albums they had planned, including Still Paying and You Owe Us Change. The former was set to feature Kanye West, Common, and John Legend. But when a “a sizable investment” fell through, and their label situation didn't pan out, the album was ultimately shelved. The duo pivoted to their Chicago’s Hardest Working mixtape series to try to stay afloat and keep the momentum in their favor, but the group soon faced personal hardship and decided to hang up the mics in 2008.      

Over a decade later, Gre and EP would re-emerge with a full-length album produced entirely by Kanye West, an artist their group had inspired early on. The album, Dreams Still Inspire, would be the only official release via Kanye's YZY SND imprint. Although no longer affiliated with the label, the group continues to evolve as part of the Slum Village extended family, a sibling group whose DNA permeates the likes of Midwestern Hip-Hop greats.

Mink writes and writes; he has enough music right now to release an 5-6 EP's. His work ethic is unmatched. Mink can write a song in the booth and finish recording in less than an hour. [Video] Mr Mooq "Midnight Moonlight and You"

Midnight Moonlight and You" was written over 30 years ago and has a storied history. Way back in the 90's I had a music management company with Jim Saxon called "Calvin James Music." We were really excited because we just signed Giorge Pettus, a great R&B pop singer who had a record deal with MCA Records and they were working on his album. What he needed was a hit song! Jim and I got together with songwriter Tom Campbell in my living room and wrote "Midnight Moonlight and You." We thought it was a real banger and the record label would love it. So, Jim and I flew out to LA and met with Louil Silas. At that time he was MCA Records executive producer for Babyface, Bobby Brown, Sheena Easton, Pebbles, Patti LaBelle, and Giorge Pettus. When we told him about "Midnight Moonlight and You" he said had already given the last of the budget to the Isley brothers to finish Giorge's album. Disappointed, we gave him the song anyway but I doubt he ever listened to it.


That night we were invited to the Isley Brothers studio session with Giorge and hung out with Ron and Marvin Isley as well as Angela Winbush. We all shared a fast food dinner as they recorded Giorge’s vocal tracks. Unfortunately the song they produced wasn't a hit for Giorge and that was his last album with MCA records.

Decades later I came across "Midnight Moonlight and You" in my archives and thought maybe Mr MooQ should give it a go. Excited, I called Jim Saxon and we put together a modern version of the song. I then hired Chuck Zwicky to do the arrangement and oversee the production. Finally after all these years, here's "Midnight Moonlight and You!"

Since Giorge and Tom are no longer with us I dedicate this song to them for all the fun we shared. Miss you guys!
